The Time Gary Matthews Jr Turned Into an Eagle

Every now and then, an athlete transforms. They cease being human, and become something else. They harness the power of nature and make a play that no man could make on his own. They make you wonder if Animorphs is a non-fiction series.

In July of 2006, Gary Matthews Jr. grew eagle's wings and soared through the air in center field of the Ballpark in Arlington. Mike Lamb thought he had a home run, but Matthews Jr. knew otherwise. He could already feel the wind lifting him up to new heights, and what seemed impossible before became possible.

The sheer athleticism of jumping as high as you can, planting your foot on the outfield wall, vaulting even higher, locating a ball hit from nearly 400 feet away, and catching it just aren't possible for a normal human.

That's why the only explanation for this catch is Gary Matthews Jr. turning into an eagle and swooping through the North Texas skies to rob poor Mike Lamb of a home run.
