Dallas Mavericks Game at the American Airlines Center

NBA games aren't just for basketball junkies like me. Going to a professional basketball game is fun for casual fans or people just looking to be entertained for an evening, and the Dallas Mavericks do a great job of making sure you have a good time. There aren't very many bad seats. The view above is from mid-upper deck. I'm sure the views from the corner and behind the basket aren't spectacular, but I never buy those seats. They're bad at every arena.

The second level is a little better, and it comes with a server who'll go get food for you. If you're willing to part with a lot of money. I can't remember the exact gratuity, but it's about twenty percent. Not bad if you're at a restaurant, but kind of pricey for someone to fetch a hotdog for you.

You can also sit behind the bench, which are sort of good seats. Sure, you can hear the players discussing the game, cursing out officials, and flirting with attractive women in the stands. But your view of the game is a little obstructed, as the players are kind of tall and the coaches all love to stand and yell.

Mavericks games are perfect for casual fans. They do great videos when there's a lull in the game action:

And of course, there's the Mavs Maniacs. MANIAACS? I don't know. Here they are:

That's right. Large, middle-aged men dancing in cut-off shirts. Somehow, you can't look away.

There are a couple of clubs and lounges in the American Airlines Center, where the Mavericks play. The arena is state of the art, not just a concrete behemoth meant to hold games and concerts. At Victory Plaza, which lies at the entrance, there's usually some sort of festivities going on, like karaoke or carnival games. You can reach the AAC easily by train. The parking is spotty sometimes. On one trip I had to park under a freeway bridge and was harassed by a sketchy looking dude trying to get a few dollars off of me.

There's no interesting food here to speak of as far as I know, but they do have Pizza Hut.

Like I said earlier, basketball junkies and casual fans alike will enjoy a Mavericks game. If you're in Dallas during the season, check it out.
